How to install hp printer on rocky linux 10v KDE edition without issues

Dear Rocky-ers,

I wanted to put up a printer on a network but hplip doesn’t seem to work including the downloaded hplip-3.25.6.run, on hp’s site. Hence i tried the ‘Add printer tool’ gui but I’m not sure, which protocol would work best for an assigned printer ip - eg 192.33.0.04 (HP Printer) please?

Tested but doesn’t seem to send a task but can see the toner level etc. Any tips would be appreciated.

Would be nice to actually know the make/model of this HP printer. Usually with networking HP you choose IPP or HP JetDirect. But you haven’t given enough information on the printer and how it is being networked for anyone of us to give an answer.

Sorry Sir, this is an HP laserjet enterprise M455 series, which is included in cups but could be under HP Laserjet Series PCL 6 CUPS.

Thank you iwalker

And is it connected directly to a computer? Via USB? Or is it connected to the network via network cable or WIFI?

Sorry should have mentioned those too, connected to a network via LAN, not wifi or USB. Thank you for being kind.

OK, then it should be possible to use the AppSocket/HP JetDirect which communicates with the printer on port 9100 if I remember correctly. Then all you need to do is put the IP address of the printer, it should even then usually detect the make/model of the printer at this point - or you may need to tell cups which one to use if it doesn’t.

Just for info, if you go to web browser and localhost:631 you should be able to get the cups web interface, and mine looks like below:

also HP printer, and you can see the config for the IP address using ipp. So you can use it more or less to choose either ipp or Appsocket/JetDirect.

The problem i keep getting is having tried both ipp & socket, the printout is still B&W.

I even looked at the web-GUI but i can’t find any section to fix the B&W (greyscale) printout.

I chose HP LaserJet Series PCL 4/5 or PCL 6 CUPS, could find m455dn or m455 or close model.

Any idea please?

According to here: https://sourceforge.net/p/hplip/news/

M455DN is supported in hplip 3.21.2. Rocky Linux has 3.23.12 version of hplip, so it should be supported with that version.

dnf install hplip

should be all you need to do. If you don’t choose the correct printer driver, then it won’t print in colour.

root@rocky-web:~# dnf repoquery -l hplip | grep m455

/usr/share/ppd/HP/hp-color_laserjet_m455-ps.ppd.gz
/usr/share/ppd/HP/hp-laserjet_m4555_mfp-ps.ppd.gz

clearly shows the package and dnf command I mentioned has that driver. The run file you downloaded is the wrong way of doing it.
