What to default EDITOR in in /etc/profile?

notepad.exe for quick fixes, wordpad.exe for more serious development

No need to stress on internal editor.

  • sudo yum install powershell-7.1.0-1.rhel.7.x86_64.rpm
  • Set up SSH, SCP
  • Setup vscode on your machine
  • set up vscode remote development extension
  • Sip Tea and wait for ms to push breaking changes to vscode or powershell :eyeglasses: :dark_sunglasses:

But really in our age of cloud I don’t see a need for for a terminal editor.
Unless you are running an offline; not connected to any network; linux box, Which seams pointless.

Having just been dealing with a kernel panic leading to an unbootable system with corrupt md and lvm, all I can say is: thank heavens for vi!

We all need to keep it in mind when joking with engineers and technical types that the intent might well be missed. Years ago, I was in a dance club and a group of us had formed over in the corner to hear a clever joke.

Jay, one of our members - an electronics engineer - looked at all of us questioningly when we all burst out laughing at the punch line. He failed to see anything funny about the joke at all.

Other times, Jay would come excitedly to tell us a ‘hilarious’ joke and we’d all look at each other to see if anybody else had ‘gotten it’ but we seldom did. (???)

All I gotta say is that here in ‘Rocky’ where almost everybody has an engineering tendency - humor might well escape most of us.

Hmm, then it should really be NOTEPAD.EXE :stuck_out_tongue:

hmph. all you cloudy lightweights.

keep it lean, save many kilobytes of storage, choose the greybeard:

/bin/cat

no muss, no fuss.

VIM is powerful editor , initially it break your head but after some time you love it.
Nano is best editor in CLI if you are beginner, easy to understand and use.

but what about my urge to answer as gedit the only editor i know

As an old timer who cut my teeth on WordStar, I vote for joe.
