My solution: When you create new VM you are asked for guest OS type and version.
If you choose “RedHat” and some its version the NIC detected by guest OS is “VMware VMXNET3” by lspci. The driver is found and loaded.
If you choose “Other-Linux-2.4” the NIC detected by guest is “AMD PCnet32” and module is not loaded , thus no NIC in VM
