I have attempted to install v9.4 (which I believe is current) onto this device. Realistically, it entails ALL the HP 600 Series when it comes to v9 or newer (ANY version of v9).
The problem stems NOT from the installation. That’s a given. Use “Legacy Boot”. OK, I get it. I manage to get the architecture to use the USB drive with the latest version of v9 (of which, I am using v9.4) onto the drive.
The drive is identified on the HP device’s BIOS. It can “see” the drive.
In this case, it is a Western Digital Black 320GB hard disk drive.
I think there are two ways in the bios to set how the disk is managed, AHCI and IDE. I would try switching that option and then seeing if your disk is now recognized. You can google AHCI and get some relevant hits.
I’m commenting based on my experience and not as someone with expertise in this matter relating to AHCI. But googling the topic is the best source of enlightenment. I do know from past experience that choosing between one or the other does have an effect on whether the hard disk is recognized by the installer at boot or being able to boot prior installed OS if the drive has been moved from old machine to new.
Let’s see if the OP can clarify for us what they find.
