Rocky Linux 8.10 installation hangs on HP Z4 G4 workstation

Hi,

I found a similar topic on this forum, but it’s from few years ago and it stayed without resolution, so I’ll try my luck again.

I have trouble installing Rocky Linux 8.10 on the HP Z4 G4 workstation. I boot form a flash USB drive. It goes to the GRUB menu with “Install Rock Linux 8.10”, “Test this media & install Rocky Linux 8.10” etc. but after I select any of the menu entries it goes to the black screen with the cursor and stucks. No error messages it just stays in this limbo indefinetely.

I treid to press e and remove “quiet” from the “linuxefi” GRUB command line, but it didn’t change anything.

I updated BIOS version on this workstation to the latest (P61 v02.94 05/17/2024), still no luck.

This problem is specific to the combination of Rocky Linux 8.10 and this HP workstation, because I can install Rocky Linux 8.8 and Ubuntu 24.04 on this PC without problems (and with the same BIOS settings). Also it’s not the issue with the USB stick, as I can install Rocky Linux 8.10 by the same USB stick to other machines (I’ve tried HP Z4 G5 and it works).

Does anyone has an idea what could be the problem, or at least how could I debug it further? This problem is especially frustrating because installation process seems to hang somwhere between transferring control from GRUB to the kernel and doesn’t give any error messages.
