I just did an upgrade and I have found that all the users on my desktop machine that use GNOME have now got oversized top bar icons and the menu background panes have disappeared. I have tried to reset GNOME to default but no luck for the moment. Any thoughts on how to mend this are most welcome.
It works fine on a default install of RL 9.8. I would check the Extensions, especially Dash-To-Panel settings. Maybe start by disabling and re-enabling them to see changes. In the Dash-To-Panel there are font tuning settings (Fine-Tune tab). Also, check the tweaks though I do not believe there are settings that affect the icons there.
Dash to dock only affects the apps dock menu on my machine. Turning off or on the Extensions window has no effect on the top menu icon size.
Gnome Tweaks does not change anything either.
I have just done an upgrade on another machine and I get the same result. This update was quiet large so below is only the gnome part …

It’s only in the GNOME classic version. Standard Xserv works fine. It’s just that I prefer GNOME.
Can I rollback GNOME and see if that solves the problem?
To downgrade, you need to be able to access both current and previous versions of the packages. Once 9.8 is released, you no longer see the 9.7 packages, since you can use:
dnf list --showduplicates <package-name>
to verify this. Downgrade is going to be pretty much impossible. I would suggest opening a bug report, so that the Rocky team can look at it. They just fixed bugs/issues with flatpak and postgresql due to something not quite right in the initial builds. Chances are the same is here as well and they have differences introduced that upstream (RHEL) doesn’t have.
Might be worth checking dnf first; see if the new flatpak is there, and see if it makes a difference…

I believe after the systemd updates released yesterday that all you need to do now is update, reboot and it should be OK.
