RL9 will not boot on a Dell PowerEdge R450 (15G) with BOSS RAID

I’m at my wits’ end here.

Got a brand new Dell PowerEdge R450 delivered a couple of days ago. Installed RL9 as I always do, the server and BIOS are bone stock. Installation goes all the way through, successfully, but then upon first boot I get the following error:

Booting from Integrated AHCI Controller 1: Rocky Linux
Boot Failed: Integrated AHCI Controller 1: Rocky Linux

It should be mentioned that I’m installing on a pair of BOSS M.2 SSD devices configured as hardware RAID1, from the factory.

Have you checked the iDrac log?

It could be coming from the SecureBoot direction.

You can switch it off to test it.

Couldn’t find anything in the iDRAC log.

I tried to delete the virtual disk on the BOSS SSDs that came from the factory, and install RL9 on just one of the SSDs (no RAID), and that worked!

Update. After destroying the virtual disk, I created it again, this time selecting “secure=disabled”, and that did the trick.

Not sure if the virtual disk could have been modified rather than destroyed and created, perhaps.

I’m not sure why RL9 refuses to boot while installing fine, and I’m guessing secure is better than not secure, but at least I’m now operational.

I don’t know which generation of BOSS card your server has, but here “secure” has nothing to do with secure boot. Reading the Dell manual, secure for the Boss card’s looks like disc encryption.
