Cannot login through Wayland GUI after update

Today I triggered a few updates that were listed in Webmin (a remote management web-based console for those not familiar), but should have been the same if dnf update were issued. After that I cannot login to the GUI, which I could login to a few days ago. There was an update listed for wayland. All packages are now up to date.

I can login to a text login (Ctrl-Alt-F3) or a GUI remote session from a Windows PC (which uses XRDP).

On the PC itself, the GUI login appears, accepts a password but for any user does not allow a login (just goes back the initial screen where users login from). There are a couple of messages that have not appeared previously in journactl:

Server gdm-wayland-session[965679]: Gdm: gdm-wayland-session takes one argument (the session)

Server gdm[1803]: Gdm: GdmDisplay: Session never registered, failing

These may identify the fault or there may be some more diagonstics to do.

How can I resolve this?

To reply to my own question… It works again this morning. Maybe it needed a reboot after the update as those errors are no longer present.

When I read the original post, it made me wonder if it had been rebooted, but it seemed too obvious, so I didn’t say anything.
