I’m running Rocky Linux 8 with KDE from EPEL on my workstation. I’m regularly teaching online courses using Google Meet with the screen sharing function.
Sometimes I have to draw stuff to explain things. Usually I’m opening this site to do a quick drawing: Sketchpad - Draw, Create, Share!
Unfortunately the mouse is not very practical or accurate for drawing, so I thought about acquiring a tablet. I’ve never used these. I searched around a little bit and found a Wacom graphical tablet. Are these supported natively under Linux ? Can I just plug it in (besides the mouse) and then do my drawings ? Or do I need some special drivers and/or software ?
I’ve got one that I bought and it works with Linux - a Wacom Intuos Draw - since it doesn’t get used much couldn’t justify the cost of getting a more expensive one but it does the job.
I just plugged it in and it worked, although I’ve not tried it with Rocky. I have Rocky in a VM, so I can always do a USB passthrough to check and confirm if it works or not. They do take a bit of getting used to. For me, it doesn’t show where the cursor is, so it’s kind of hit and miss where you are going to click and start drawing, and I didn’t search or spend time to find out if I could do anything to solve that. But otherwise, it’s all OK.
