I just installed the popular Unofficial Teams for Linux via the Flatpak (com.github.IsmaelMartinez.teams_for_linux). I launched the application and connected to my private account. Here’s the main window of this application:
Now I can’t seem to figure out how to open an invitation link directly from within the application. Either this option is very well hidden or it is nonexistent.
When someone sends me a link to a Teams meeting via email, clicking on the link fires up Firefox by default, but I don’t want that.
Anyone else figured that out? On a side note, for the last 25 years or so, I’ve made the experience that whenever something is not working for a very stupid reason, more often than not it’s related to a Microsoft product. This still seems true today.
Invitation to a team or meeting? If meeting, go to calendar tab, and then use the Join Meeting with ID option.
Another option is copy and paste the link and create a meeting in the calendar section. Then click the join button in the meeting that was created in your calendar.
I use Outlook Webmail anyway for accepting meeting requests that I get and then they appear in Teams so I don’t have the problem of having to open links. When the native Teams client existed for Linux it was possible to click the link and have it open in the native app. That doesn’t work now with the new app in flatpak.
I experimented some more and found out that joining a meeting with an ID and a code works perfectly. Though accessing these options is a bit counterintuitive. I took some notes so next time I won’t pull out my hair trying to join a meeting:
