Kmod-mpt3sas driver for Rocky 8.8

Hello Experts
I have some old IBM server with old LSI SAS2004 raid controller and want to refresh them with Rocky 8.8.( Rocky 8.9 or Rocky8.10 is not option as some of in-house rpm does not work with newer kernel)

I had search the ELRepo list kmod-mpt2sas for 1000:0070

0c:00.0 Serial Attached SCSI controller [0107]: Broadcom / LSI SAS2004 PCI-Express Fusion-MPT SAS-2 [Spitfire] [1000:0070] (rev 03).

However I can’t find the correct RPM package or build driver update disks (DUD) for Rocky 8.8 kernel.

kmod-mpt3sas-43.100.00.00-1.el8_9.elrepo.x86_64.rpm
kmod-mpt3sas-43.100.00.00-2.el8_10.elrepo.x86_64.rpm
kmod-mpt3sas-43.100.00.00-3.el8_10.elrepo.x86_64.rpm

Thank you

Alex

Rocky 8.8 is no longer supported by the Rocky team, only 8.10 is supported now as a release.

You could ask elrepo if they still provide the rpm for Rocky 8.8 but they may also only be supporting the later releases as well (hence why cannot be found on elrepo mirrors), since 8.10 supercedes all previous 8.x releases. The same with Rocky 9, 9.5 being current and only supported version.

The other solution is get your in-house RPM packages updated to ensure that they support the 8.9/8.10 kernels.

Thank you for explaining the release support model. I will ask the service/vendor if they can make it on new kernels.

The proper way is indeed to get the third party to support latest (el8) kernels.

If really desperate, then one could look at the Driver Update Disks: Index of /linux/dud/el8/x86_64
Those images do have kernel module and that collection seems to have more than just latest versions.

Hi jletone,

Unfortunately, there are no DUD driver for Rocky 8.8 yet.

I am looking at the package like EL8_8…

“kmod-mpt3sas-43.100.00.00-1.el8_8.elrepo.x86_64.rpm”

Thank you,

Alex

I wonder why there is no el8_8 version of it. I’m quite sure that if it is not there now, then it will never will.

What do you have there now? It is probably something unsupported and insecure, just like the el8_8.

Which is “worse”:

  • el_8_10 without the in-house package
  • No system at all

To be honest, the old IBM hardware are still running stable for many years as it was always.
That “IBM hardware package” provide stable solution for our basic need, there are some potential risks and efforts associated with upgrading those in-house apps as well others.

Thanks
