thanks for your info, but I have completely given up on linux. In decades of dealing with Mac, unix, Microsoft, and all their idiosyncrasies, I have never come across so much excess baggage which keeps me form using the OS. the last straw was chat GPT suggesting I remove sudo to get rid of outdated package warning, which arose after trying to install Resolve on Rocky10 (as recommended). That of course killed the machine so it would not boot under any key combination, and will need specialist reformat to recover. Its a pity, I was ready to embrace the freedom and efficiency of the non windows world, but I return to “ask leo” and his like to create with Adobe, and Reaper, in relative peace. Please copy this to the admins if you would, I do not have the forum skills.
The Rocky team has nothing to do with Davinci Resolve. I gave you the link in my first reply to Davinci Resolve forums. Complain to them if their product doesn’t work.
Instead of trusting ChatGPT you should have asked here about uninstalling sudo, and we would have told you that is not the solution to your problems. Seems too many people believe and trust AI crap instead of real people.
Ask Leo I assume is some other AI crap you are also asking for help. No wonder you have so many problems then.
If you do not have forum skills, which to be honest is extremely simple to use, then no wonder you have difficulty with more advanced stuff. I expect if you tried using Linux for normal tasks like creating documents etc, then you wouldn’t have any problems whatsoever. Unfortunately Davinci Resolve is pretty much a problematic product - there are plenty of posts on this forum already where people have issues with it, and then do have technical abilities to fix it and have done.
But feel free to give up if it’s too difficult for you, maybe Windows or Mac is the best thing for you to stick with in that case. These days Linux is pretty easy in comparison to 20+ years ago when I started using it. Then it required a lot more effort to get things working than nowadays.
Good luck with whatever you choose to use instead. We’re not here to make you use Linux, it’s your choice. Either it suits you or it doesn’t.
@bazza76@iwalker - oh thats a shame, myself & around 5 friends have all moved to rocky for video editing… yeah theres a learning curve if you are new to Linux same as i am..
one of my friends who has never used linux followed that video above & was up and running perfectly in 10mins for resolve… ( long time mac user, and loves it )
following the video removes any problems as its 1 thing that deals with it all
ill never go back thats for sure.
jsut to add i install rocky & resolve from fresh on another computer, whole process took about 30mins… and ive only started using linux around 6 months ago
Hi,
Personally, I’ve been using DaVinci Resolve Studio for over 5 years on GNU/Linux. For 4 years, I used Manjaro KDE, but with each KDE update, I had major issues with DaVinci Resolve. Blackmagic only guarantees that its application will work properly on the base Rocky Linux version.
This choice is due to the multitude of Linux operating systems and the numerous desktop environments. It’s already great to have such an application that works perfectly on a Linux base. A year ago, I migrated my PC to Rocky Linux 9.5 KDE. Support guarantees stability until 2037. DaVinci Resolve Studio 20.2, my Nvidia RTX 4070 graphics card, and my two 4K monitors work perfectly.
The Linux environment isn’t without its challenges; you have to constantly persevere in the face of adversity. In this way, we progress and never fall asleep.
