Atril -i (start page) not honored when a pdf is loaded from the file menu inside atril

I always want atril to start viewing any pdf on page 1 regardless of where I viewed it earlier. I have an alias ‘vpdf /bin/atril -i 1’ which does the trick. But when I open a second pdf from the file menu inside atril, it opens it to some page where I viewed it at some earlier time. Is there any way I can make these internal file opens also always start on page 1?

Atril seems to be a document viewer for Mate DE.
Rocky does not have Mate, but EPEL builds Mate packages for el9 distros.

Perhaps https://mate-desktop.org/ can tell more about Atril and its use?
