I have an Acer laptop that’s maybe three years old or so, and it worked fine with Centos 7 and 8 but when I updated from kernel version 240.22.1 to any version past that, the sound quit working and the only output available was “dummy output”.
In other words, kernel version 240.22.1 and any lower version worked, but any higher version had no sound avalable.
This created a problem now that I want to update it to Rocky 8.
The sound hardware introduces itself as “intel sunrise point-lp hd audio”.
THE SOLUTION:
Add the kernel parameter snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0 to grub.
Sound works, problem solved.
