We are getting CVEs related to kernel need to fix the CVEs so please clarify on below rpm compatibility

Hi Team,

We have a query that "kernel-5.14.0-611.54.1.el9_7" and "kernel-5.14.0-611.55.1.el9_7" related sub packages are compatible with Rocky-Linux 9.5 ?
We need a complete clarity whether this kernel related packages are supports Rocky-Linux 9.5 version.

Thanks!

Darwin.

Rocky 9.5 is no longer supported - only the current version. Upgrade your system fully.

Thanks for your inputs,

But we are currently using Rocky-Linux 9.5 as a base OS for our product.

we are getting CVEs related to kernel upgrade and we could not upgrade the system right now.
so we need a confirmation following rpms and their sub packages “kernel-5.14.0-611.54.1.el9_7” and “kernel-5.14.0-611.55.1.el9_7” will support or compatible with Rocky-Linux 9.5 ?

Regards,
Darwin.

As I said, Rocky 9.5 is no longer supported so nobody from the Rocky team will confirm it since only the latest version is supported.

If you want to use an older release like 9.5 and need support, then you should be using and paying for something like RHEL.

You can however try and install just those kernels as you wish, but again if something doesn’t work, then the Rocky team will tell you to upgrade your system completely.

Actually, even Red Hat does not sell support for RHEL 9.5 – they do offer extended support for only some point updates. See Red Hat Enterprise Linux Life Cycle | Red Hat Customer Portal

To base product on OS version that was already beforehand known to live only 6 months and has already been EOL for over a year does not sound very robust.

Enterprise Linux thrives to be stable as in “if it did work in 9.5, then it will work in 9.8 too”.
Too strict requirements in your product are all yours.
