I can confirm that I have the same problem since the last update. We update our machines during the first week of each month. Since last weekend the first group of the machines that were upgraded, have the same problem as mentioned above. I can confirm this while trying to login as normal user with selinux=disabled. Also I noticed strange behavior on our nfs server, (ssh session to the server terminates without any excuse, workstations freeze for seconds and then unfreeze) . nfs server is used for user’s home directories, which are available when users try to login on workstations.
Had a similar problem on Rocky 8.
A correctly functioning system stopped working after an update. In this case a failure dialog appeared and OK-ing it resulted in another login dialog (from xrdp) where selecting vnc and re-entering the password gave a normal session. This was fixed by downgrading xrdp.
This is where it gets strange! The faulty version was 0.10.6-2 which seems to have now disappeared from the internet. My local repo mirror must have fetched this from the ‘UK mirror’ but it is no longer on that server. An internet search for this version reveals several cached hits for pages that no longer exist. PS the ‘rogue’ version appears to be correctly signed.

Just got around to trying:

Trying to RDP in caused the box to show me logged in on the display connected to the box. I’m not sure if that’s normal since the box normally runs headless.
One box just spent a while grinding on updates (logged into using a display, kb, and mouse) but no fix for the problem. I was hoping against hope that it would start working again.
Please find attached all the requested logs. May be this help, since we need to have remote desktop facility operational early in September.

Below is the status of the xrdp service
Which version of xrdp and xrdp-selinux do you have ?
dc
xrdp-selinux-0.10.6.1-3.el9.x86_64
xrdp-0.10.6.1-3.el9.x86_64
with Rocky 9.8
Yup, that’s the correct latest at 06/08/2026 ![]()
dc
(I asked because the original thread started looks to have been effected by the rogue 0.10.6-2.el9.x86_64)
I’ve just installed the following packages on Rocky 9.8:
root@rocky9:~# rpm -qa | grep -i xrdp
xrdp-selinux-0.10.6.1-3.el9.x86_64
xrdp-0.10.6.1-3.el9.x86_64
xorgxrdp-0.10.5-1.el9.x86_64
I opened the port for firewalld, and then used Remmina RDP client on my Fedora 44 laptop to connect to Rocky9 without problems.
Attempting to use rdesktop as a client to connect wouldn’t work.
EDIT:
Actually, rdesktop will work, at least if you don’t attempt to add any extra parameters that seemed to cause issues for me.
Therefore it would suggest that Remmina maybe has ome options enabled for that connection that are causing problems. I would take a look at the Remmina logs, since you can change the FreeRDP log configuration for the connection from INFO to something else.
I have the following using the same command:
xrdp-selinux-0.10.6.1-3.el9.x86_64
xrdp-0.10.6.1-3.el9.x86_64
How do I get the missing xorgxrdp on my system? A DNF install command or somesuch?
If you have the EPEL repository enabled, then it will be there to install with dnf.
root@rocky9:~# dnf list --installed | grep -i xrdp
xorgxrdp.x86_64 0.10.5-1.el9 @epel
xrdp.x86_64 1:0.10.6.1-3.el9 @epel
xrdp-selinux.x86_64 1:0.10.6.1-3.el9 @epel
Please let me clarify that the problem is when you try to connect from windows (i.e windows 11) to the linux box. This combo was working , if I am not mistaken from Centos 7
, but after the latest upgrades of this 2 packages we are unable to connect. This is basic and demanding functionality in our department, and a fix should be around shortly
thank you
Maria
I have the same RDP issues when using macOS and “Windows App”. Worked in prev version so 9.8 related.
As the packages are managed and maintained by EPEL, the bug (if there is one) will need to be opened with them. The Rocky team are not responsible for packages in the EPEL repository.
I installed the missing package via DNF and rebooted. It’s working again. Many thanks for the fix.
