Hi,

I am a new Linux user. I ran a dnf update that produced 240+ “Problems”. I do not know what they mean or how to go about resolving them. Can anyone help shed some light?

There are all dependencies that cannot be provided by epel. Ex:

Problem 1: cannot install the best update candidate for package NetworkManager-l2tp-1.20.20-5.el10_1.x86_64

  • nothing provides libnm.so.0(libnm_1_56_0)(64bit) needed by NetworkManager-l2tp-1.52.2-1.el10_2.x86_64 from epel
  • nothing provides NetworkManager >= 1:1.56.0 needed by NetworkManager-l2tp-1.52.2-1.el10_2.x86_64 from epel
    Problem 2: cannot install the best update candidate for package NetworkManager-openvpn-1:1.12.0-3.el10_1.x86_64
  • nothing provides libnm.so.0(libnm_1_56_0)(64bit) needed by NetworkManager-openvpn-1:1.12.5-1.el10_2.x86_64 from epel
    Problem 3: cannot install the best update candidate for package akonadi-server-25.08.1-1.el10_1.x86_64
  • nothing provides libQt6Core.so.6(Qt_6.10)(64bit) needed by akonadi-server-25.12.3-1.el10_2.x86_64 from epel

You might want to try dnf --disablerepo=epel update and see if that works any better.

RHEL released 10.2 several days ago and recently built epel packages are likely to require 10.2. Rocky 10.2 isn’t officially out yet, but it should be soon.

Yep, same old problem every release because EPEL is in sync with RHEL, and until we release 9.8 and 10.2 it causes problems. Plenty of posts on this forum already about this for the last few releases as well where it’s happened before.

With 10 the dnf --releasever=10.1 might help temporarily as the EPEL 10.1 should still exist.
The 9 lacks that, for there is only one EPEL 9.
