Rocky Linux 10 and numeric keyboard

Hello,
I have just installed Rocky Linux 10/Gnome 47.7 on my Asus F552l intel core i7 laptop (not new but still ok).

The numeric keypad is not working and the numlockx package which should the problem (according to the net) is not available.

How can I activate the numeric keypad ?

Regards,

Alain

Laptops don’t normally have a separate numeric keypad?

If it’s buried in the main keyboard, sometimes you have to press a function key to activate it.

According to google image search, the Asus F552l has a discrete numeric keypad, as shown in this photo:

Having said that, I wonder if the poster would get any output by running the xev command and pushing the keys on that numeric keypad.

Thank you both for your answers.

In fact, it’s the numlock key that does not work. By default the num keypad controls the cursor. If I use shift + a touch from the numeric keypad, it writes the corresponding number.
Afaik xev does not exist under RL10.
Downgrading to version 9 is not an option - assuming it works!

In the meantime, I’ll keep going like this!

Regards

Depends on the laptop, but there are plenty out there with a numeric keypad separate from the main keyboard. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T15p with a full keyboard layout and number pad. I do use Fedora though, and it works perfectly fine with that. Unfortunately, I do not wish to reinstall my machine to test Rocky on it but I may be able to test one of the Rocky Live ISO’s and see if it works without having to install.

It’s one of the reasons I tend to prefer to run Fedora on laptops or desktops for the wide availability of hardware support, as well as the various desktop environments that are available by default.
