No, I don’t believe so. You are not far enough along in the boot process for the user and root data to be accessible.
I would try CTRL+ALT+DELETE to force a reboot and then try selecting an earlier kernel or if that doesn’t cause a reboot then just power off and then back on. Your drives aren’t mounted yet so there should be no loss of data.
So after these updates did you reboot to confirm all was good? And then today for no apparent reason you were dropped to the grub prompt, flashing underscore?
I’ve had a similar instance happen to me on my Fedora 41 system which I keep up to date. In my case this did not happen after an update but several reboots later. I did as I’ve suggested here and rebooted into a prior kernel and all was well and then I rebooted to the latest kernel w/o issue.
Good luck!
Thanks! I gave the second option in the boot list (it had the same Rocky 9.6 version name and there were 4 to choose from including rescue which wouldn’t work) - the second option however loaded the GUI, user option ready to select and login with password.
Turns out I was using the wrong username hence I could not log in via the blinking cursor part of boot
