Are you saying you get bounced to the login screen “at randon”, or ONLY when using terminal (or playing a video)?
Did you install any unofficial packages, or is it pure Rocky 10?
Next time it happens; write down the exact date / time, then as root, try journalctl -e
scroll up, to before the crash, then check all messages, any warnings or errors?
If you can’t use terminal at all, it makes it hard to run commands and view the logs. There is a Gnome “logs” app, but it’s not as clear as using a terminal.
Other option is log in normally, then press CTRL+ALT+F3 (or F1, or F2) until you get to the console (black screen with login prompt). Log in as your normal user then use sudo to run commands.
Maybe i was being an idiot.. i use rocky for video editing…
with rocky v9 - i could have my monitor plugged into my nvidida graphics card… and it would work perfectly using nouveau drivers, while i installed all the full nvidida drivers…
Now if i plug my monitor into my Integrated graphics the problem goes away…
now i jsut need to figure out how to install those drivers… as all the old ways fail because of different packages…
I can see where it’s going wrong in the screenshots, it complains about nouveau, and then gnome-shell dumps core (taking you back to the login screen).
For future, you might be able to save the log (from the black console screen) to a text file, and then post it to the forum as text; the screenshots are missing some of the text.
I know you’ve solved but I’ll leave it here just in case.
I had the same issue in two systems. One laptop with a Intel integrated and a 1070 and my workstation with a 3060.
What I did was install another terminal from the store (yup). Looks the same as the gnome terminal but it would open instead of crashing. Then I installed the Nvidia drivers from the rpmfusion website. Restarted and all is working and the default terminal works fine.
