Hi, I have 2 raid controllers, one for the system and the other for data, but during installation the data disk is always named sda and the system disk is named sdb. Is it possible to change the name during installation so that the system device is named sda and the data device is named sdb? Thank you for your help.
No it cannot. There are already posts on the forum about this. Nowadays, disks/partitions are pretty much almost always accessed by UUID. Therefore, the ordering of the disks is irrelevant at this point. The reason for this is mounting by UUID will always be successful, irrespective of whether the disk order is sda/sdb or sdb/sda.
I had this problem once, but in reality when you are using the system and the partitions are mounted, whether system is sda or data is sdb or the other way around is irrelevant. I would prefer it like you, but it’s purely cosmetic and doesn’t cause any problems for using the system.
