Would it be possible to please add support for p4de.24xlarge instances on the official Rocky Linux 9 AWS Marketplace? From other posts it seems that this issue is related to a checkbox being missed somewhere on the AWS Marketplace configuration.
Hi @alex2 , I’ve looked into this from the AWS Marketplace side.
The p4de.24xlarge type is not available for us to publish on. Amazon provides us a (very large) list of “instance types we support”, and generally we select all of them unless we have a good reason not to (eg. too little RAM).
This GPU/ML instance isn’t on our list though, and for whatever reason our Rocky9 image is not “allowed” to support it. It’s not clear to me why - still looking up AWS documentation on the subject.
There is a workaround that seemed to work for me though: You can download the raw qcow2 EC2 image from our site, upload it to S3, and import it as your own AMI. I’ve confirmed there are no machine type restrictions on personal account AMIs, it appears to apply only to “official” marketplace listings.
Grab a Rocky9 image from here: Rocky Linux Repository (use one marked “EC2”, and pick LVM or non-LVM, whatever your preference)
Upload the image to S3
Use AWS image import to bring the image in as an AMI that you own
Run the AMI on any instance type you like
It’s worth noting that the EC2 images in that web directory are precisely what is published on marketplace. The Rocky project does this exact process every release, uploading our images and importing them to AMI. We simply go a step further and formally put them on marketplace as well. From a technical standpoint though, the images are the exact same. We want people to use it in their private accounts for situations like this one.
