The Official Rocky Linux 9.x AMI (x86_64) on AWS Marketplace do not support the m8i instance family, yet they do support the r8i family, which also belongs to the 8th generation. Is there any plan to add support for the m8i instance family in the future? Thank you!
Hey! Thank you for posting this.
Amazon (unfortunately) requires marketplace members to manage their instance support and availability manually - when new instance types or updated instance types come out, they are not automatically added to a listing’s availability catalog.
I can see why they do it, they want vendors to ensure support per-machine. But it’s a bummer for a community project like us: Community Rocky on AWS is already self-support by default. I’d love to just let people try Rocky on any instance type greater than 2 GB of RAM and go for it, no questions asked.
Having said that, I noticed it’s been a good while since we’ve “checked all the boxes” for new and different types that our listing supports. It’s a bit of work, but I’m doing that now. And it looks like the AWS change-approval is pretty fast for this sort of thing. Look for your desired type to be supported in the next hour or so.
Let me know how it goes, thanks!

Now the M8i instance can successfully be launched with the Rocky image. Thank you very much!
