as root. If your system is using EFI Secure Boot you may need to sign the

It is unclear from your post title and provided log output if Rocky 9.8 is your host or guest. Please be explicit when providing information stating where it’s coming from so that we don’t have to guess.

Experience has shown that it is likely that solution may require upgrade to newer VirtualBox version on your host that will have support for newer kernel in guest.

Current version of VirtualBox is 7.2.8 and if you are able I would recommend you upgrade VirtualBox on your host to a version with explicit support for the guest OS mentioned in the CHANGELOG.

If your issue is not resolved by upgrade of VirtualBox and Guest Additions then:

  • Please provide full version of VirtualBox installation you are using as well as host OS platform and version.
  • Please provide the version of VirtualBox Guest Additions and the OS platform and version you are attempting to build the vboxdrv in your guest.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to show above but don’t recommend trying to rebuild VirtualBox from source yourself. If that is something that you need to do then the appropriate place for support would be Oracle.

I have verified the TestBuild and Guest Additions for macOS/Intel host (7.2.9-174006) work as advertised and have successfully built and signed kernel modules in a 9.8 guest following the standard sequence.

I suggest you give the TestBuild for you host along with the updated GuestAdditions a try unless you absolutely cannot upgrade. If that is the case I think the appropriate place for support would be Oracle as VirtualBox TestBuild/GuestAdditions with Rocky Linux 9.8 Guest have been demonstrated to be fixed, at least on macOS/Intel host.
