Update-smart-drivedb fails with signature error

update-smart-drivedb fails with a signature error:

/etc/cron.monthly/update-smart-drivedb
gpg: Signature made Wed 03 Dec 2025 08:33:48 AM PST
gpg: using RSA key DEC7AE47968B7C875947F2A9EA74AB25721042C5
gpg: BAD signature from “Smartmontools Signing Key (through 2020) smartmontools-database@listi.jpberlin.de” [expired]
/etc/cron.monthly/update-smart-drivedb: /usr/share/smartmontools/drivedb.h.error.raw: *** BAD signature or outdated key ***

This is on a fully updated Rocky 8.10 installation.

Any ideas?

I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled smartmontools.

It appears to be working now. Perhaps there was an issue on the server?

From your output it looks like their GPG key had expired, and since it’s started working would suggest they renewed it. The GPG key would have been used to ensure whatever updates are being downloaded from SmartMonTools are secure and unaltered.
