RL 9 on Synology FS6400

Hi,
i’m new to RL,
i was trying to install the RL 9.4 on Synology FS6400 VMM, what i have done simply with the network created, storage added, but when i run the VM, first it shows me the installation menu, however, once started it just stuck at “Started cancel waiting for multipath siblings of sda”
i have been trying browse this kind of topic but unable to find any matching ones.
but i hope someone has experienced this issue before, or any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
please see below screenshot

So as I understand it, the Synology is a hardware device, that runs it’s own operating system (what does it use?) and then it has a “VMM” (of some kind) inside it, which can then run an o/s such as Rocky?

Thanks Gerry,
The VMM is the virtual machine manager by the Synology,
It can run most images, which RL as well at least it brought me to the initial setup page but then stuck from the start, i tried with Ubuntu, and it works

RL 9 has specific hardware requirements that the vmm may not be able to provide. Those requirements are in the release notes.

You might try RL 8 and see if that works.

Hi JBKT23,

Thank you, i actually did, and it took me to the setup page and even the installation process completed without any issue.
but that also stuck, please see attached, that’s by far i can go.

I got a DS218+ so will check to see if I can install Rocky 9 on it. You will need to change from Legacy BIOS to UEFI though. I will update when I get it installed and working (if).

Well I only get this:

which would hint that Synology hardware is not supported by Rocky for the limited VM application that it has. Normal KVM on a Linux host, works fine, so it would suggest that basically Synology is not up to scratch for running every possible OS.

Thank you Iwalker,
seems like it,
this means, i need to find another way to install the RL.

Thank you Gerry, looks like it was an old post
but not sure if that resolves current issue

It’s an old post, but it has a lot of detail about the multipath timers.
