Openldap Server + client

Hello all, I’m trying to configure OpenLdap server and rocky workstation to login with ldap users. My Rocky Openldap server has installed phpldapadmin and I can sucessfully login. i can also run

ldapsearch -x -b “dc=mca,dc=local” -D “cn=Manager,dc=mca,dc=local” -W

Now I’m trying to configure client, but without success, this is my configuration file on client for /etc/sssd/sssd.conf

if I login with local account and type su - jsantos , it works, but if I try to connect over ssh or try GUI . I cannot login

Have you looked at /var/log/secure to see the reported error from pam_sss? It can very well be Could not start TLS encryption. unsupported extended operation in sssd, but you have to start at /var/log/secure first.

How about:

ldapsearch -x -b “dc=mca,dc=local” -D “cn=Manager,dc=mca,dc=local” -W -ZZ

as man ldapsearch says:

Issue StartTLS (Transport Layer Security) extended operation. If you use -ZZ, the command will require the operation to be successful.

Which implies that without the -Z the TLS is not used.

The sssd does always require TLS for some data (like passwords), IIRC.

You have certificate in your LDAP server and the the client has the public cert of the CA that signed the server’s certificate?

It might can be that. I didnt condigure certificates , yesterday I tried to configure Ubuntu workstation and with Ubuntu it worked well, probably ubuntu does not need to have StartTLS .

sssd_be is the “backend”.

I think it’s just saying it can’t start TLS, maybe because it’s expecting certificates to be set up on both sides, and both will match.

As a silly test, it might worth trying “never” here:

There’s also a setting

ldap_id_use_start_tls

I’ve already configured StartTLS and if I run

[client@client ~]$ ldapsearch -x -b "dc=mca,dc=local" -D "cn=Manager,dc=mca,dc=local" -W -ZZ
Enter LDAP Password:
# extended LDIF
#
# LDAPv3

# requesting: ALL

But when I try to login client machine I got this
