Evolution 3.28.5 (3.28.5-22.el8) hasa a destructiive backspace that iis not working at this time.

If you need something right away, you can try to use our build here (which is part of our stream build called lookahead). Note that using this is not directly supported by us (release engineering) and you may run into issues using it.
