I tried with and without (all the combinations). The system will not boot with just the cloned drive.
My guess is that you have to re-run grub2-install for the new drive.
Did you try clonezilla-live ? This tool allows you to copy from one disk to another.
I had a similar problem with cloning an SSD with dd. You need to update the /etc/lvm/devices/system.devices file. This post describes the “vgimportdevices” command.
Note: Make sure you remove the original/source drive from the machine.
