# Unable to upgrade centos 7 to rocky 8 via leapp

hi i have below os details

cat /etc/os-release

NAME=“CentOS Linux”

VERSION=“7 (Core)”

ID=“centos”

ID\_LIKE=“rhel fedora”

VERSION\_ID=“7”

PRETTY\_NAME=“CentOS Linux 7 (Core)”

ANSI\_COLOR=“0;31”

CPE\_NAME=“cpe:/o:centos:centos:7”

HOME\_URL="

BUG\_REPORT\_URL=“[https://bugs.centos.org/](https://bugs.centos.org/)”

CENTOS\_MANTISBT\_PROJECT=“CentOS-7”

CENTOS\_MANTISBT\_PROJECT\_VERSION=“7”

REDHAT\_SUPPORT\_PRODUCT=“centos”

REDHAT\_SUPPORT\_PRODUCT\_VERSION=“7”

# and I am following the [How to Migrate CentOS 7 to Rocky Linux 9 | phoenixNAP KB](https://phoenixnap.com/kb/migrate-centos-to-rocky-linux) while running sudo leapp prepgrade I get below error 2024-07-25 10:07:45.149 ERROR PID: 4292 leapp:

Consult the pre-upgrade report for details and possible remediation.

Can some one suggest some way, it was working fine earlier

Rocky does not support in-place conversions between _different_ distros (e.g. el7 → el8).  
(RHEL 8, Rocky Linux 8, CentOS Linux 8, AlmaLinux 8, etc are all _el8_. “Same”. _Side_grade between them has support.)

If you do use ELevate to do such conversion, then you should ask from developers of ELevate.
