I’m one of those “complexity is the mother of all screw ups” so I like keeping things simple. Setting the cert’s expiry to 3650 days keeps it simple. These certs are only used so that I can use TBird to read internal system e-mails like logwatch, amanda backup statuses, etc. Not to worried about the privacy of the content. If I ever need a not self-signed cert, I’ll hit Let’s Encrypt.
