SMTP between Machines ON Local Lan

AlmaLinux 9 beta still has ‘sendmail’ in ‘appstream’ and ‘s-nail’ (also in appstream) provides ‘/bin/mailx’.

Deprecated means: not in some future version. Apparently RHEL 9 is not enough future for these …

Heck, some still use ‘ifconfig’ and ‘netstat’, although improved successors appeared over two decades ago.

Yup i still use ifconfig and netstat  just prefer it

So if you switch to one of these other mail programs like postfix does /usr/sbin/sendmail become a link to the actual mailer executable? This so programs like logwatch and BackupPC can use the preconfigured mailer path.

Hi,

I believe this isn’t set-up by default, but a symlink can created which will do the desired, once postfix has been configured:

ln -s /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix /usr/sbin/sendmail

Although if sendmail has made it to rhel9, no need to worry about this for quite a few years.

Thanks Tom.
