Hi,

I am a new Linux user. I ran a dnf update that produced 240+ “Problems”. I do not know what they mean or how to go about resolving them. Can anyone help shed some light?

You might want to try `dnf --disablerepo=epel update` and see if that works any better.

RHEL released 10.2 several days ago and recently built epel packages are likely to require 10.2. Rocky 10.2 isn’t officially out yet, but it should be soon.

Yep, same old problem every release because EPEL is in sync with RHEL, and until we release 9.8 and 10.2 it causes problems. Plenty of posts on this forum already about this for the last few releases as well where it’s happened before.

Current build status if you want to follow it: [Rocky Linux](https://rockylinux.org/#releases)

Thank you @linde and @iwalker . I believe from both your answers that waiting is the best option for now. Thanks again!

With 10 the `dnf --releasever=10.1` might help temporarily as the EPEL 10.1 should still exist.
The 9 lacks that, for there is only one EPEL 9.

Dear Rockers,

My device is Rocky Linux 10.2 (Red Quartz) (Build 6.12.0-211.22.1.el10\_2.x86\_64) (64-bit).

Been waiting for the repo fix but i still get:

**dnf upgrade -y**

Last metadata expiration check: 0:03:58 ago on Wed 17 Jun 2026 05:15:15 PM BST.
Error:
Problem: cannot install both rocky-backgrounds-100.5-3.el10.noarch from appstream and rocky-backgrounds-100.4-7.el10.noarch from @System

- package rocky-backgrounds-kde-100.4-7.el10.noarch from @System requires system-backgrounds = 100.4-7.el10, but none of the providers can be installed
- cannot install the best update candidate for package desktop-backgrounds-compat-44.0.0-2.el10\_2.noarch
- problem with installed package rocky-backgrounds-kde-100.4-7.el10.noarch
(try to add ‘–allowerasing’ to command line to replace conflicting packages or ‘–skip-broken’ to skip uninstallable packages or ‘–nobest’ to use not only best candidate packages)

Any ideas please?

Thank you 🙂
