And if you have Rocky 8 installed, you need to enable the epel repository first, which meant also copying the first command in the list of three dnf commands given.

The `[root@localhost Oscar]# ` looks like a _shell prompt_. Do not type the prompt.
The `root@rocky9:~# ` looks like a _shell prompt_. Do not type the prompt.

I guess that you had terminal open and it did show the prompt:

```auto
[root@localhost Oscar]#
```

Then you did copy-paste to the prompt:

```plaintext
root@rocky9:~# ls /home/
Oscar
```

which is same as typing first:

```plaintext
root@rocky9:~# ls /home/
```

Where the shell sees “word” `root@rocky9:~#` (and some other words after it).
Since `root@rocky9:~#` is not a known command, the shell says so:

```auto
bash: root@rocky9:~#: command not found
```

and then your copy paste “typed” a second “command”:

```auto
Oscar
```

Which is not a known command either. It looks like possible _output_ from command ls.

What you should have typed (or copy-pasted) is the

```auto
ls /home/
```

where the `ls` is a real command and the `/home/` is an option, argument for ls.

* * *

One can also do:

```auto
echo ~
```

and shell should expand the `~` into current users _homepath_.
